Homecoming is right up there with Christmas for me. It’s one of my favorite times of year, but some years are better than others.
This year was pretty good, not quite a standout, but I had a thoroughly good time.
It’s always a little different for me, being an Atlanta native. I have other obligations besides the Morehouse/Spelman activities. Friday was about those things for me. I went and visited Aunt Lynette and her family almost as soon as I got into town. Then I connected with the homie Eulus and got a MIUCH needed haircut.
Actually my barbershop experience could be a whole entry itself, but I’m not gonna write about it. Let’s just say this much. I was in there for 3 and a half hours, dude cut 4 heads and was T.I.’s most ardent supporter by a pretty wide margin!
Anyway, that caused me to miss both of the happy hours I had planned to attend. I wasn’t too upset about it.
I hooked up with the homies Nile, Reggie, and Maurice. Yes, the four flats (minus Smallwood) were in full effect once again! We did the usual things. Most of which I can’t/won’t write about, but rest assured we had a great time!
Saturday was all about ONE thing, the tailgate. I had a bottle of Jack Daniels, a bottle of Stoli (thanks Candice!), and a lots of red bull and gatorade. Needless to say I had a NICE buzz but I was good!
I saw lots of people, there were lots of people I DIDN’T see (sorry E Dubb, Tiff, and Tiff). Some of the soldiers were M.I.A. (I’m talking about Nile, Jim Crow, B., Danny, Blincoln, and Cade in particular!). Maybe next time right? I had to dip out a bit early myself to take my dad back. So I’m sure I missed a few people I prolly woulda seen otherwise.
I’ve never been big on the after-tailgate parties. I’m usually a) passed out, b) tired, c) broke, or d) all three. This year I was just broke, but luckily my BUDDY Elenda looked out. We had a good time kicking it with her girl Scharlan (hope I spelled it right), Nile, and Whitehead out at Atlantic Station.
By the time I headed back on the road with Todd and Jann (thanks again guys by the way!) I had that usual excited, but exhausted feeling I usually have on the way back home.
Back to surgery and E.R. and all the madness that comes with being here. I’m just trying to make it another year!!! Pray for me!
